How to Hide Photos Before Handing Your Phone to a Kid
Handing your phone to a kid to watch a video or play a game? Take a few seconds first so a swipe won't turn up something they shouldn't see.
The quick pre-handoff move
Before the phone leaves your hands, get anything sensitive out of the camera roll so a curious swipe finds nothing:
- Hide the photos into the Hidden album (••• → Hide). They vanish from the main grid.
- On iOS 16+ the Hidden album is locked with Face ID, so they can't open it.
- For extra peace of mind, turn the album off from view: Settings → Photos → Show Hidden Album off.
Even better: lock the phone to one app
If you're handing over the phone for one app (a game, a show), turn on Guided Access (Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access). Triple-click the side button to lock the phone to that single app, so they can't leave it to reach Photos at all.
