Before a phone leaves your hands, you want zero personal photos going with it. Here is the safe order of operations, whether you are wiping it or passing it on.

If you're selling or trading it: erase everything

The only fully safe move before selling or trading is a complete wipe, after you've backed up:

Back up (iCloud or to a computer) so you don't lose anything.
Sign out of iCloud: Settings → [your name] → Sign Out. This also removes Activation Lock.
Erase: Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Erase All Content and Settings.

A full erase removes every photo, hidden or not. Nothing personal survives it.

If you're handing it on without wiping (repair, family, hand-me-down)
